GenderGap edit-a-thon March 2018

This page documents the GenderGap edit-a-thon in March 2018.

Building of the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the EU in Brussels where the edit-a-thon takes place

Purpose

edit

The edit-a-thon (Wikipedia writing session) is organised on International Women's Day to write articles about women to make Wikipedia more gender equal. It is not only organised in Brussels, but in many Swedish embassies around the world. With the edit-a-thon participants get an introduction in Wikipedia and then start to edit Wikipedia with support from experienced Wikipedia editors.

History and background

edit

Research has shown that there are much less articles about women than men, which is called gendergap. To close this gendergap, over the years many activities have been organised. Also a project group in Brussels focuses on this subject, Just For The Record.
