Structured Data on Commons

Structured Data on Commons (SDC) is a Wikibase instance for Wikimedia Commons to register structured metadata about a media file.

Technology

• Both Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons are using Wikibase as a database server.
• Since 2022 OpenRefine allows to update both instances.

Data instances

Both are LoD systems that are referring to each other. Wikidata is maintaining the definition of the properties.

• Wikidata is documenting objects (items).
• SDC is documenting pictures

Image properties

Structured data makes it possible to perform structured search for media files.
