Archiefbank Vlaanderen

Archiefbank Vlaanderen is an online database with information on Flemish private archives. The database describes what is in the archives, where the archives are stored, and how to visit the archive, but does not provide documents from the archive itself.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is to add information about the archives to items on Wikidata about people and organisations.

History and background

By adding data from the Archiefbank Vlaanderen database to Wikidata, the knowledge from the database because more accessible and people looking for information about specific people/organisations are more easily led to the actual archival sources.

5 October 2017 - Start of import of about 11073 archival descpriptions by linking them to existing and newly created Wikidata items. (example)
17 November 2017 - Meeting about the processing of the data donation of Kunstenpunt and Archiefbank Vlaanderen in Walvis, Brussels (Romaine)
May 2018 - Import data to Wikidata completed
