The 'KOERS. Museum of Cycling (Roeselare) is financially supported by the Friends of Wikimedia Belgium Fund in the context of a Wikimedian in Residence project. This project is managed by the Koning Boudewijnstichting through the Committee Friends of Wikimedia Belgium.

Project description

KOERS has an extensive documental and museum collection highlighting Belgian and international bicycle and cycling history in all its facets. In 2022 and 2023, we focus on the fair race theme in our public and scientific operations. Using various Wikimedia platforms, we aim to make the collection and research linked to this topic publicly accessible. In collaboration with volunteers and race organizers, the museum can thus give greater visibility to the Belgian carnival circuit and its heritage.

Within the museum's operation, 2022 and 2023 are dedicated to fair races. KOERSbus, the cycling museum-on-wheels launched in 2021, will visit the remaining 26 fair races starting in the summer of '22. Consequently, the content of this mobile temporary exhibition will be dedicated to fair race culture. This (stray) heritage, together with the museum's own collection, forms the substantive basis of 'kermisKOERSbus'.
