During the European Year of Cultural Heritage we organise the photo contest Wiki Loves Heritage in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. Heritage in this contest includes:

During the contest period we invite all heritage related organisations to organise activities to allow participants to take photos as well as (outside the contest) to upload images (but also sound and video files) of heritage themselves.

Within the photo contest of Wiki Loves Heritage, the Flemish government organised a Flemish jury and winners, in East Flanders the local government organised a local jury and winners, and the Architecture Archive Flanders organised a contest around the architect Léon Stynen.

History and background

edit

Every year the European Commission chooses a topic what in that year there is special attention for in the member states of the European Union. For 2018 the European Commission has chosen for the topic of cultural heritage. Each of the member states has there own implementation of the topic of the European Year, resulting in a large variety of activities organised.

Every year Wikimedia Belgium organises a photo contest to enrich Wikipedia with photos of a certain subject from Belgium. In Earlier years the photo contests Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Art and Wiki Loves Public Space were organised.

In the following year(s) Wiki Loves Heritage 2019 (etc.) are organised.
