Wikimedia Summit

(Redirected from Wikimedia Conference)

The Wikimedia Summit, or the Wikimedia Conference (WMCON) how it was previously named, is an annual meeting in Berlin of representatives of affiliates like Wikimedia chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees and other movement groups like the Affiliations committee and the Funds dissemination committee. With the 2019 edition the organisers renamed the conference to Wikimedia Summit.

Attending the Wikimedia Conference is very interesting to learn more about best practices and how to improve the quality of the organisation. It is extremely interesting to hear and see how other countries are running their chapter, and organise funding, and statutory reporting.

The primary goal of the conference is the management of the (inter)national organisation, and its strategy.

It can optionally be accompanied by training sessions.

Participation is restricted to board members and executive directors, after formal approval. Since the corona pandemic in 2020 virtual-only, or mixed mode conferences were organised. 2021 did not take place because international travel was forbidden. 2024 would be the last conference in this format. Possibly it would be replaced by regional meetings.
